The A11 — Thetford to Norwich
The main artery, and the one most London and Cambridge moves come in on. Dual carriageway nearly all the way now, which makes it the easiest approach in the county — right up until the Thickthorn end.
What this road does to a move
Since the Elveden section was dualled this is the one genuinely fast road into Norfolk, and it is why the A11 corridor towns have absorbed most of the county’s growth. A move from London or Cambridge on this road is a straightforward run.
The complication is at the Norwich end. Thickthorn is where the A11 meets the A47 and the southern bypass, and it is the single busiest piece of road in the county. A loaded vehicle arriving there at the wrong point in the day loses more time than the entire rest of the journey saved.
So we plan arrival around it rather than around the departure time, which is the opposite of how a move is usually scheduled.
